In Enzo's Shoe Repair, five pairs of shoes lament that they are unable to fulfill the Purpose of a Shoe, which is "to protect and to serve feet." Their owners have not returned to reclaim them. One plus in their lives is that they love Enzo, the owner, who cares for them as if they are his children.

What Enzo does not know, however, is that when his shop is closed, the shoes rehearse a song-and-dance routine act that they hope to perform on national TV in order to find their original owners.

Prima, Italian-made leather booted ice skates, has been in Enzo's seven months. Having toured the world as skates for her ballerina owner, she  desperately wants to tour again. The other shoes support her but cannot possibly leave Enzo's on their own.

Another shoe, old Oxfords, has been spying on the shoes after hearing a rumor that a group of shoes sings and dances. The Oxfords, named Gum Shu, with great detective skills, finds Enzo's. He reports back to his boss, Ferragamo loafers, whose owner in an eccentric talent manager of novelty acts.

Prima, when hearing about Ferragamo's owner, escapes the shoe repair shop to meet him. When the others discover this, they follow her into the dangerous world of cars and crowded sidewalks to find their beloved Prima before danger befalls her.
